Overview

The importance of Frontier Wing’s Homestead Group simply cannot be understated. We literally build Vanguard. When we need a Home Base, frontier base, or material production outpost such as farms, mining facilities and science/research stations, Homestead Group is the only one that can provide. We take a patch of dirt in the middle of nowhere and turn it into an outpost or base and then run it efficiently on a day-to-day basis. Homestead takes us from a group of people in a bunch of ships, to an intergalactic organization that is capable of extending it’s sphere of influence to the farthest corners. Homestead Group is the foundation of Vanguard.

Mission

Provide safe and reliable transport of organizational assets. Conduct profitable commerce in various commodities. Establish and manage facilities that expand Vanguard’s influence across the galaxy.

Squadrons

Homestead Group is comprised of three squadrons, each with their own specialization. A Homestead Group member’s placement in a squadron reflects their desire to focus on a specific operational expertise. While members will often be called to fill different roles across the Homestead Group, Frontier Wing, or the Vanguard organization in general, the following squadrons are dedicated to the mastery of their respective interests.

When Vanguard is ready to expand its presence in the ‘verse our Civil Engineers are the first ones to be called. Org leadership identifies a specific need, such as a farming outpost or mining facility, and our civil engineers go to work. They begin by combing through data on the location that has been compiled by Initiative Wing. Any available data will help in this initial process, but ultimately the engineer must go to the location to verify its accuracy, fill in missing gaps in information and conduct his own scouting to cull potential sites for development. Additionally, they will verify that none of these sites have already been developed by another entity or organization. Engineers then present recommendations to leadership for final selection. Upon approval, our civil engineers place a land claim beacon, collect the data chip and head back to the UEE Planetary Development Office to submit an official claim to the land. Civil Engineers have an extensive understanding of base building mechanics and Pioneer operations. This knowledge is used to plan structural placement to optimize the use of natural resources. As such, we are required to submit construction plans to Redhorse so base building can commence.

Forging the way ahead. It all comes down to the Pioneer and it’s crew. Upon receiving the plans from the CE we read the requirements and break it all down to fill our giant construction ships with everything needed to create something out of nothing. If the job is too big to do all in one go we determine when resupply missions from Transport Group will occur. We use a high priority request from leadership to ensure defense requirements are met by Security as this will be a big operation that is highly vulnerable once construction begins. When the mission is adequately planned and supported, these behemoth ships lumber into space with the goal of expanding the frontier itself. We locate the site specified by the CE and set down to conduct our own site survey. Any discrepancies will be cleared up with the CE before our crew begins the process of construction. Once construction begins our Pioneer and crew will crank out asset after asset until the entire base has been created and carefully placed with meticulous attention to detail.

So we took our step, set our foot, planted our flag and built a base. There’s only a hundred problems that remain. Mines won’t run themselves. Crops will wither without care. Outpost power sources will wear out over time. Storage units will fill to capacity. Components will break. Aggressors will attack. Supplies will run out. NPCs will stop working. Unless, there is someone to ensure these operations proceed unhindered and with efficiency. Base Operators may provide oversight of these problems for multiple facilities on a moon, planet or possibly an entire planetary system. As a part of our daily duties, we will order cargo missions to haul away generated commodities. We verify that there is enough food, medical supplies, batteries, components, and agriculture supplies to keep bases running. We coordinate base defense and make sure our security personnel has all the weapons, ammo, armor, cyclones and tanks they need to properly defend the facility. If people get injured we coordinate a pick up and request replacements. All of this is happening all day every day, at every outpost, station and base that Vanguard operates.
